During World War 1, the government passed the Espionage Act and the Sedition Act. These resulted in the numerous Supreme Court cases questioning First Amendment rights during World War 1. These cases include Shenck v. United States, Debs v. United States, Frohwerk v. United States, and Abrahams v. United States. All of these cases are covered in both the lecture and the textbook.
