As early as the 19th century, substantial disparities between western and eastern European nations started becoming prevalent. These differences substantially impacted the ability of nations to generate consistent growth. However, these disparities were not only between east/west lines, but also within these regions (Britain vs. France/Germany vs. Scandinavia nations). We also noticed that some regions lagged but were able to catch up.
